Traditionally promotion interrupts you and tries to convince you that you have a need for the product or service on offer.

This is ‘push marketing’, effectively ‘pushing’ you to buy like a pushy salesman with this approach becoming less effective.

Search engine marketing, such as search engine optimisation and pay per click, is based upon the principles of permission based marketing. This means that when people are interested in your service they will come looking for it. The challenge is in making sure that when they look, you are the people they find, and that they buy into what you offer.
